We are having a one-off inhouse auction with three exciting prizes up for grabs; a 4-week ceramics course with local artist Liz Collinson, a painting of Stepper Rock by local artist Doug Barber and a stunning painting of Morecambe promenade handcrafted by Morecambe born artist David French.
Prize1:
Liz Collinson, a local ceramic artist, is supporting CancerCare by donating a 4-week ceramic clay course at her purpose-built studio in the scenic Trough of Bowland.
After graduating in the summer of 2007 with a First-Class Honours Degree in Ceramics, Liz attended the Slade School of Art, and has been experimenting with creativity ever since. Liz she has gone on to win "Best in Show" awards from the Craft Potters Association.
Last year Liz donated the same prize to our “Aladdin’s Cave” auction which was well received from Ness Lyon who thoroughly enjoyed her time with Liz and made some fantastic creations.
“I really enjoyed my time with Liz, trying something new and exciting. From day one Liz got me stuck right in, learning about pottery and all the skills and techniques used, I especially liked the 'throwing' technique! Also, I loved the location of her studio, it was so peaceful and therapeutic. It was a great course to be part of and I created nine pots which I got to take home with me.”
With guidance from Liz, she will encourage you to find a creative paradise by teaching you various building and glazing techniques. Liz’s studio is in a private walled garden that overlooks the Trough of Bowland, which really is the perfect place to unleash your creativity and relax!
The starting bid for the ceramics course will be £50 so get your magic hands on the buttons to be in with a chance of making some unique creations.
Prize2:
Morecambe born David French has donated a fabulous original painting of “Boat on the Prom”. In 2013, David had a desire to escape ‘normal’ life, so he set off with his partner Kath on a round-the-world cycling trip. Exploring the Mediterranean coastline which helped him to rediscover the stunning landscapes of Cornwall, where he now lives.
David’s pieces capture the coast’s colour, movement and atmosphere from a unique perspective. He uses acrylics to retain the intensity of colour and varnish to create depth.
David says: “Contrasts of colour and tone are crucial when painting the sea, which needs a certain rhythm and form yet also marks of a more random nature. These marks make the sea come to life!”
Prize3:
An original coastline painting by a local independent artist Doug Barber has been donated. The beautiful image highlights the sunset over “Stepper Rock” and captures the fine detail of the view. Doug has been painting for over 50 years and has kept his skills local, selling his art in garden centres. The 90-year old artist has painted hundreds of unique pieces and has kindly donated this particular piece to our auction.
