Each year a small group of people who share a love of shooting dedicate a shooting competition in memory of their friend, Stan Tunstall, a local Barrow man, who sadly passed away from cancer in August 2013. The Furness and District Clay Pigeon Shooting Club, near Ulverston had their annual Stan Tunstall Memorial shoot this year in aid of CancerCare and raised £350.

In 2011 Paul Kassel joined the club after he was welcomed with open arms into such a close-knit group by Stan, who was running the club at the time.

“The Club has been going for as long as I can remember, I recall hearing them in and around Scales Village back in the early 80’s, I eventually became a member 11 years ago after getting the bug. After Stan passed away in 2013, I was still somewhat of a junior member and remember us celebrating his life with a remembrance shoot in his name. In 2017 I took over and ended up running proceedings every week, so I decided to start having the Stan Tunstall Memorial Trophy shoot every year to try raise some money for local cancer charities” said Paul.

This year was the fourth trophy shoot after having had their wings clipped for a couple of years due to COVID. The shoot which took place on Saturday 21st August, had 34 people attended the competition and shot at 80 targets over five different set ups.

“Each year we raise money in Stans name and give to various different local charities, but after hearing about the support CancerCare gave to my Mother-in-Law who was struggling with the diagnosis of her husband, I wanted to dedicate our 2022 shoot to you” said Paul.

The 2022 shot raised £350 for CancerCare whilst remembering Stan and his passion for clay pigeon shooting. Thank you, Furness and District Clay Pigeon Shooting Club, for your support.
