Bex Gosling, joined our team in February 2022 as a Youth Development Worker at our centres in Cumbria. Bex spent seven years working for the NHS and CAMHS but decided to move into working with younger people in youth group settings in the local community.
Whilst Bex works as part of RE-FRESH, she also offers one to one Interpersonal Psychtherapy (IPT) for young people coping with depression and issues at home.
IPT is a verbal therapy that helps people identify and address problems in their relationships with their peers, typically their family. Bex offers IPT to young people aged 13 and over who may have experienced something in their childhood which has had a significant impact on their overall wellbeing and affects how they feel about themselves and how they relate to people.
“The therapy itself is split into three stages which will unfold over the course of the sessions. Firstly, I guide the client into identifying what is going on in their world and what goals they would like to set over their time with me. Over the weeks I will work with them on those goals and give them the opportunity to have the space to think of different ways they can connect with people to improve their mood and process what they have experienced. The final part of the process is to help the client discover ways they can continue supporting themselves with the help of people around them. Bereavement is usually out of a client’s control, so for them to be able to take control of when they finish their sessions gives that person a sense of control and achievement,” said Bex.
Like all our therapies, IPT is a regular, reliable, consistent and confidential space for the client to work through their thoughts.
“No two sessions with me are the same, every session is different and catered towards the young person's experience. I’m a really easy going and chilled out person that wants to work with people in their own way,” added Bex.
