Rebecca Carroll-Atkinson from Preston decided that she wanted to do something daring to mark her special 60th Big Bald Birthday Bash while raising money for Lancaster-based charity CancerCare.  

On Saturday 10th December 2022 Rebecca went under the clippers at Flame Urban Spa in Preston. She was cheered on by a salon filled with supporters and well-wishers and raised an amazing £2,527.03 for the charity which provides free professional support for people coping with a cancer diagnosis or a bereavement.  

“We really appreciate the support of our community during the difficult financial times we’re going through, especially over Christmas which is already a difficult time for many. Rebecca has done an incredible job at fundraising and she’s absolutely rocking her new style! Thank you for your support, Rebecca,” said Emma Athersmith, Director of Fundraising and Marketing.

"I want to thank everyone who has supported me, donated to my page and sent me lovely messages. I feel proud to have done this for CancerCare. My hair will grow back but that is not the same for people who have lost their hair as a result of cancer treatment, so I feel humbled that this was a choice for me,” said Rebecca

“Now time has passed since the head shave and life is 'back to normal', I’m surprised at the fabulous response of my venture. When I stop to look properly in the mirror, I feel overwhelmed by the success of the fundraiser... it worked! I've raised so much and it’s really going to make a positive difference,” said Rebecca.
