£3,000 raised thanks to a “sterling” effort from CancerCare’s resident silversmith!
In 2020, our creative metals class tutor Rachel Hearne launched her Lovelinks project, a community art scheme which saw dozens of our clients and supporters create their own one-of-a-kind silver link under Rachel’s expert guidance.
They were then combined to create a unique chain, 15 feet in length. which was put on display in Arteria Gallery in Lancaster, before being broken down into smaller bracelets and necklaces which were then auctioned off to raise money for CancerCare.
Last month, the sale of one of the pieces saw Rachel reach her £3,000 goal! A fantastic achievement and a wonderful testament to Rachel’s imagination, determination and of course, skills as a jewellery maker.
The concept of the project was inspired by the strength group members gain from coming together at Rachel’s weekly sessions at our Lancaster and Kendal centres and it is always inspiring to see our clients losing themselves in creativity and camaraderie.
Rachel said: “It’s been such a lovely project. I want to thank all that participated in making and those who have donated. CancerCare is such an amazing charity and this income will help so many in our community.”
