This weekend, the South Lakes Women Go Swimming will dive headfirst into a summer-long fundraising campaign which will see them swim the length - or a mile, depending on our individual ability - of 14 of the lakes, tarns and meres in the Lake District.
The group is made up of Jo Johnston, Ruth Davis, Kath Mutch, Di Turner, Noelle Kirk, Victoria Jackson, Jo Clover, Ruth Buxton and Kath Atherton and they will begin their challenge at Rydal Water on Saturday 1st April at 11am.
They will then continue with:
- Brothers Water
- Easedale Tarn
- Devoke Water
- Grasmere
- Loweswater
- Buttermere
- Crummock Water
- Derwentwater
- Wast Water
- Bassenthwaite
- Coniston
- Ullswater
- Windermere
Di and Ruth both have experience of breast cancer and received therapy from CancerCare following their diagnosis. Several of them have also taken part in the Great North Swim and Cross Bay Walk for CancerCare and a number of the group are also part of the Bay Brass Hooters Band which have performed at the charity’s fundraising events.
The group are hoping to raise £1,000 for CancerCare which provides free professional counselling and complementary therapy for people affected by a cancer diagnosis or bereavement across north Lancashire and south Cumbria.
Di said: “We are all excited to start our challenge and have lots of crazy adventures of swimming, laughing and, hopefully, raising lots of money for CancerCare.”
