An important part of our work is imparting our specific expertise and experience in the therapeutic provision for cancer patients, to clinicians.
This week our Development and Engagement Officer Sarah and Chief Exec Alison travelled to Preston where Sarah was a guest speaker at UCLAN International Medicine Department and gave a talk about her lived experience of cancer and the benefits of seeking support in the wake of a diagnosis.
Her talk was delivered to post-grad medical students and doctors and was designed to aid their learning about the psychological, emotional and holistic elements of patient diagnosis and care.
The session went really well and she has been invited back to give another lecture in the spring.
Sarah said: “It was wonderful to be able to benefit their education and be part of the ongoing dialogue between someone with experience of cancer and the medical profession. Hopefully it gave them some valuable insight into the perspective of the person that is their patient.”
