Fitness enthusiasts worked up a sweat to break a clubbercise world record while raising money for three local charities, including CancerCare.
Participants gathered at Barrows Raiders for a 5pm kick off on Saturday 6th January. To break the current world record for the largest-ever clubbercise class, more than 261 attendees of the Barrow Raiders Disco Ball Festival were required to take part in 30 minutes of clubbercise.
Everyone got in the spirit, donning neon leg warmers, face paints and glow sticks.
The class was led by four local instructors, Kirsty and Heather Leeder from Dalton Leisure Centre, Kate Shaw from Barrow Leisure Centre and Jo Graham from Ulverston Health Centre.
As well as certificates of participation, the instructors chose one person each to win a prize, including prosecco, chocolate or vouchers for an alpaca picnic experience.
Everyone who participated in the record attempt headed to an after-party which celebrated the achievement late into the evening.
Prior to this attempt, Greenwich Leisure Ltd had held the Guinness World Record after their clubbercise class on 30th September 2017.
All funds raised were donated to St Mary’s Hospice, Advantage! Barrow Raiders and Cancer Care.
CancerCare’s Fundraising and Engagement Officer, Mai Harrison said: “It’s always exciting when different groups come together, and it’s great to be one of the chosen causes.”
