Our Director of Fundraising & Marketing Emma and counsellor Fiona had the honour of being invited to Morecambe's record-breaking Big Jubilee Lunch!
More than 5,000 people sat down to lunch at the event as part of the celebrations in honour of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, with thousands more turning up to enjoy the proceedings.
Hundreds of tables spanned along at least 2.5km of the seafront and CancerCare was one of the event's "chosen charities" receiving £2,500 from ticket sales.
Emma and Fiona had a great time and were filmed for a BBC story, met presenter Gethin Jones and there is a good chance Emma's regally resplendent nails will be in a national newspapers this week!
Emma said: “It was a wonderful event and we were honoured to be invited to mark such a historic occasion for the town. Our centre on Northumberland Street has been open for more than 12 months and in that time, we have helped support hundreds of local people cope with the aftermath of a cancer diagnosis or bereavement. We will be putting this very kind donation to good use helping many more.”
Emma does a grand job representing the charity at events across our geographical area - from Millom to Morecambe. This not only ensures the money we need keeps coming in but also, when historic events like this roll around, means we are at the forefront of organisers' minds when they are choosing which local charities to support.
