Rebecca Carroll-Atkinson is a Teaching Assistant at Highfield Priory near Preston and for her 60th birthday she has decided to do something daring for CancerCare!
To mark her special birthday Rebecca is having her hair shaved off to acknowledge the people in her life that have experienced a cancer diagnosis and raise money for us.
“Like so many others, many of my family and friends have experienced various forms of cancer. Some of these dear people remain with us. Sadly, some do not. Behind every person with cancer is a group of family and friends who are also affected. Acknowledgement, understanding, tolerance and continuous support are exhausting, these wonderful qualities of human nature require patience and great emotional stamina,” said Rebecca.
With the generosity of her friends, family and colleagues, Rebecca’s Just Giving page rocketed rapidly, raising over £1,000 in the first three days!
“I want to help raise money with a visible show of support. My head shave is a gesture of solidarity for people whose loss of hair is not by choice but a consequence of treatment,” said Rebecca.
Rebecca will go under the clippers on Saturday 10th December, just in time for her birthday and her works Christmas party which inspired her colleagues to call it “Becky’s Bald Big Birthday Bash.”
