Make 2026 the year you give something back; the year you do something totally amazing - like organising a charity coffee morning - for your local cancer and bereavement charity.

Each month, we’re giving you a fun, easy and impactful fundraising idea that you could take on in aid of CancerCare. There’s something for everyone!

The concept of fundraising can be daunting if you’re new to it, but CancerCare’s friendly and experienced team of fundraisers are here to help you every step of the way.

July: Take part in a sponsored walk or cycle for CancerCare

Looking for a rewarding way to get active while supporting CancerCare? Whether you prefer a gentle local walk, a challenging hike, a scenic bike ride, or a long-distance cycling event, you can create a fundraising challenge that works for you.

Choose your sponsored activity?

Why not explore walks and cycling routes in your local area? We recommend our Every Step Counts challenge, featuring 12 walks across the North West with varying difficulty levels, including accessible routes.

For cyclists you can set your own target, from 10km or 20km rides to longer challenges such as the Way of the Roses route. The distance is entirely up to you.

Plan ahead

Before setting off, make sure you've researched your route and considered any public rights of way, terrain, and weather conditions.

For cycling challenges, remember essential equipment such as:

  • Helmet
  • Lights
  • Puncture repair kit
  • High-visibility clothing
  • Waterproofs
  • Water bottle

If you're taking on a longer challenge, plan rest stops and have a backup travel option if needed.

For walking challenges please make sure you have checked out the route and are aware of any public right of ways so you don't accidentally end up on private property.

Stay safe

Carry plenty of water, take regular breaks, and dress appropriately for the weather. On sunny days, wear sunscreen and protective clothing. If rain is expected, check whether your route could become slippery or unsafe.

Fundraise with ease

We're happy to provide sponsorship forms and help you set up a JustGiving page, making it easy for friends, family, and colleagues to support your challenge.

Sharing your training and progress on social media is a great way to encourage donations and tell people why you're fundraising for CancerCare.

Celebrate Your Success

Once you've completed your challenge, let us know! We'd love to celebrate your achievement and, with your permission, share your story and photos on our social media channels.

Thank you for supporting CancerCare through your walking or cycling challenge.
