CancerCare’s 2025 Chapel Island Walk raised £3,000, pushing the charity’s Bay Walks total for this year to over £25,000 (including Gift Aid).

On 2nd August 2025, we welcomed over 130 supporters to the start at Canal Foot in Ulverston.

This was the first time in two years that walkers could explore Chapel Island, a limestone outcrop in the Leven estuary of Morecambe Bay. The sold-out event saw participants enjoy stunning views from the cliff edge, spot wildlife, and share a picnic on the island.

The group was safely guided across the sands by royally appointed guide Raymond Porter. Among the walkers were current and former CancerCare clients, as well as groups of families, friends, and colleagues. Many took the opportunity to fundraise ahead of the event, with one group alone raising over £1,700 (including Gift Aid).

One participant said: “I chose to take part and raise money for CancerCare after using their services in the past. I’ve had the most fantastic day, walking the Bay in the glorious sunshine.”

Event Lead Lisa Lambert said: “We had the most perfect day – the 2025 Chapel Island Walk was one to remember. Adding the £3,000 to the total raised during last month’s Cross Bay Walk, we’re delighted to report that our Bay Walks have raised over £25,000 – an incredible total. These vital funds will help provide much-needed support to people in our local community affected by cancer, life-shortening illness or bereavement.

“We’d like to give a big thank you to The King’s Guide, Raymond Porter, for leading us safely across the sands, and to the Guide Over Sands Trust for making these walks possible. And, of course, thanks to our amazing volunteers – we couldn’t do these events without you.”
