Everyone at CancerCare HQ was super excited when we found out that one lucky player had won the rollover prize in the 22nd August draw of CancerCare’s weekly Lottery!
We got in touch with winner Yvonne Rushforth to reveal that she’d won the grand total of £2,700! Yvonne was shocked but delighted, and she recently visited our Slynedales Centre to be presented with her cheque.
Yvonne has been playing the CancerCare Lottery since June 2019. She was encouraged to sign up by Lottery Canvasser Debbie who was visiting the area.
“She was so lovely and was very informed about the services,” Yvonne said. “I was moved when I found out what CancerCare did so I decided to sign up to the Lottery; it seemed like an easy way of supporting, too.”
Yvonne was keen to support a local charity, as she explained: “I wanted to give something to a charity who was going to be there for people in my area; it feels more personal. I didn’t know much about CancerCare when I signed up, but the local aspect was a big thing for me.
“I’ve also had personal experience of cancer. I have been diagnosed, and I have also had family members go through a diagnosis and treatment.”
Playing the Lottery is one of the easiest and most convenient ways to support CancerCare and you can sign up for as little as £1 per week.
“It’s so simple and I don’t even notice it coming out of my bank account,” Yvonne said. “I never played to win anything, just to give back as a means of donating, so being told I’d got the rollover prize came totally out of the blue – I’m glad I picked up the phone! I’m going on holiday soon so will likely put some of the money towards that, and we’ll also see if we can support our local doggy day care centre in some way.”
