Our charity was so honoured to be invited to the 20th anniversary of the Love Barrow Community Awards on Friday 4th April 2025 at Abbey House Hotel and Gardens in Barrow.
The awards recognised 11 local heroes and community superstars who go the extra mile to help others with a special surprise award for Dave Myers, accepted on behalf of her late husband by Liliana Myers.
Liliana had kindly chosen CancerCare to be the recipient of the proceeds from the evening’s raffle, which raised an incredible £1,236 – the most Love Barrow Awards have ever raised from the event.
Claire Mason, Head of Fundraising and Marketing, and Jade Murray, Community Engagement and Development Officer attended the awards to talk about the work CancerCare does within the Barrow community, and to accept the cheque.
Nominations from the community opened in the summer of 2024 with a Love Barrow Awards record of nearly 800 nominations.
In addition, during the event commemorative key rings were gifted to guests, specially made by Lilly-Mae Grimes, last year's winner of Young Citizen of the Year at Love Barrow Awards 2024 who continues to raise money for CancerCare, now with her very own micro-social enterprise ‘Lilly Mae’s Pens for Charity’
The Love Barrow Community Awards is a project run by a Community Interest Company of the same name, celebrating the locality of the South Lakes and Furness Peninsula
CancerCare look forward to continuing to work with Liliana and everyone in the Barrow Community across the 2025 Dave Day Weekend on 21st and 22nd June.
