In 2021, CancerCare received donations of around £371,000 from people who left us a gift in their Will.
This invaluable source of income contributed around 25% of the money we needed to keep CancerCare going last year, so its importance to the charity can’t be overstated.
Making a Will is one of the most important things people can do to ensure their wishes are carried out and that loved ones are provided for. Many also use it as an opportunity to demonstrate their commitment to a charity that may be close to their heart.
On Wednesday 5th October we will be hosting a special Will Writing Clinic in partnership with Lancaster-based solicitors Joseph A. Jones who will be kindly donating their time to offer free 30-minute appointments to discuss the ins and outs about make a Will.
One thoughtful lady who has recently made her Will, and recognised CancerCare within it, is Margaret Dean.
Around 30 years ago we helped Margaret, formerly of Levens near Kendal, following her breast cancer diagnosis. Margaret received massage therapy during her recovery, and she also joined our art group at the newly opened Kendal Centre, finding both the creativity and camaraderie of the sessions just as therapeutic.
CancerCare counselling support also helped her as she returned to her job as a nursery nurse college lecturer - something for which she was extremely grateful.
Margaret, now retired and living in Buckinghamshire, is fit and well and enjoying life playing golf and tending her allotment. She has never forgotten the care and support she received from CancerCare and has made the decision to leave a gift in her Will to us and to Cancer Research.
Margaret said: “I just wanted to be able to give a little bit back and to remember the support CancerCare gave to me!”

Appointments are free however a donation towards CancerCare's ever-increasing costs would be appreciated. Demand for our services has risen by 40% since before the pandemic and this year it will cost roughly £1.9 million to support local people affected by cancer or bereavement across Morecambe Bay.
Thank you
