On Friday 27th March 2026, we opened the doors of our Slynedales Centre for the popular remembrance event Lights to Remember.
Attendees were invited to dedicate a candle bearing a late loved one’s name and a personal message before adding it to a display in the gardens.
The event, that was generously supported by local funeral directors Preston Ireland Bowker, also raised £2,100.
Guests were able to decorate their memory jars and there was an opportunity to speak with CancerCare staff and therapists.
CancerCare’s Individual Giving and Legacies Officer Anna Webster said: “We had another special event remembering loved friends and family who are no longer with us. Lights to Remember has a firm place in the calendar for many of our supporters; it offers an inviting and safe space for people to remember those they have lost.
“A huge thank you to everyone involved in making Lights to Remember happen; to Brian Porter for acting as MC for the evening, Richard Prescott for providing outdoor lighting, Carol and Ann for their beautiful harp playing, Lauren Hall Photo & Video for photography and videography, CancerCare volunteers for giving up their time to help and members of the CancerCare staff team for supporting this special event. Another thank you to our event sponsors, Preston Ireland Bowker.
“There is no right or wrong way to grieve, but Lights to Remember is an opportunity for local people to come together and share their experiences with others who understand. Thank you to every single one of our attendees who joined us to make this occasion so special.”
