A family took on a Helvellyn Dawn Raid in memory of their late husband and father who died of bowel cancer.
Laura, Lotte and Leo along with their fellow climbers took part in a Dawn Raid on Helvellyn in memory of Nils, Laura’s husband and Lotte and Leo’s father, who was unfortunately diagnosed with stage-four bowel cancer aged 30.
Nils lost his fight after a six-and-a-half-year battle with cancer.
Laura said: “As many people know, Nils was an avid adventurer, an inspirational human and an all-round amazing guy. Nils always dreamed of taking the children wild camping to watch the sunrise, but sadly he wasn’t well enough. This way, he is still part of that dream.”
Helvellyn was Nils’ favourite Lake District mountain. The family completed their hike on June 21st 2024, on what would have been Nils’ 37th birthday.
The challenge raised an incredible £2,790 (including GiftAid) for CancerCare.
This year was a personal event, but it is hoped that it will mark the beginning of an annual event to honour Nils and all that he stood for.
