Evening with Guide to the Sands – Michael Wilson

Events
20 May 2025

Join us for an evening with the royally-appointed Guide to the Sands Michael Wilson as he reveals the unique history of the Bay crossings.

Learn more about our unique tidal Bay so we can do our bit to help protect a very special and much-loved natural environment. Morecambe Bay forms one of the two largest areas of the intertidal estuarine flats in Britain and provides a vital link in the chain of west coast estuaries used by thousands of migrating birds.

Morecambe Bay is renowned for its quick sands and fast flowing tides, so crossing the Bay has always come with a risk. Guides have been providing a safe passage across the Bay since 1548, with the first guide being appointed by King Henry V111. Today, the Guide over Sands Trust charity provides two experienced guides who continue to lead travellers safely across the Kent and Leven Estuaries.

This will be a fascinating evening for anyone wishing to learn more about the history of the Bay and for those taking on one of the iconic Cross Bay Walks later in the year.

Everyone is welcome and all proceeds are raised in aid of CancerCare and The Friends of the Platform.

Tickets are £10 or £15 to include a hot-pot supper following the Q&A session.

Please book online via The Platform using the below link (online bookings will incur a booking fee). Tickets can also be booked via The Platform live box office, open Tuesdays and Thursdays between the hours of 12pm and 4pm either in-person or by phone on 01524 582872 where they will not incur a booking fee.
