CancerCare is delighted to announce that we are one of the two chosen charities who will be presented with the proceeds raised during Dave Day 2025 held on 21 and 22 June.

Dave Day is a celebration in Barrow-in-Furness held in memory of the late chef and TV personality Dave Myers, who sadly died from cancer in February 2024. In its second year, Dave Day 2025 will see thousands of members of the UK motorcycle community come together to ride to Dave's hometown of Barrow.

Dave was one half of the popular TV chef duo The Hairy Bikers. On the Sunday of the Dave Day 2025 weekend, North West Community Stars FC will be taking on a team of bikers at Barrow AFC's SO Legal Stadium.

Our Barrow Centre on Duke Street provides support to those in the town and beyond who have been impacted by cancer and bereavement. The proceeds raised will allow us to continue to be there for adults and children who need us during the most difficult times of their lives.

Claire Mason, CancerCare’s Head of Fundraising and Marketing, said: "CancerCare is extremely thankful to have been chosen as one of the charities to benefit from such a momentous event, celebrating the life and legacy of Dave Myers.

"CancerCare run one of our four centres from Duke Street in Barrow and in 2024 we supported over 850 clients from the centre and in hospital, at a cost of approximately £114,000.

"Being such a huge part of the Dave Day Weekend will not only help to raise vital funds so that we can continue to provide the service that we do.

"But we’ll hopefully make the local community even more aware of the help adults and children can receive from us if they have been impacted by the devastation of a cancer diagnosis or a bereavement.”

Registration to be involved in the Dave Day ride is expected to open on Friday, February 7.

Alongside this, the last motorcycle, a BSA Goldstar, ridden by much-loved Dave is being auctioned off, with the proceeds also being split between ourselves and Childline.

Ahead of the auction, the bike is in a special static display at the National Motorcycle Museum and features life-size cut-outs of both Dave and Si King, celebrating their friendship, plus Dave’s leathers, helmet and boots.
