After four weeks of summer activities, CancerCare’s peer support group RE-FRESH threw a surprise party to say goodbye to their Youth Worker Chris Wadeson who has been with us for two years.
The party was filled with laughter, fun and a few tears but it was a lovely chance for the group to share kind words and thank Chris for being a brilliant leader.
Chris started in summer 2020 as a part time Youth Worker for CancerCare after volunteering at his local church. Chris is now embarking on a new path to follow his passion for Mental Health Nursing and will study a master’s degree in September 2022.
“It’s been brilliant working for CancerCare alongside some amazing people, and I’ve enjoyed every minute of being part of the team. I’ve loved watching the RE-FRESH group develop and expand further into the Lakes. I go home and think ‘did I actually get paid to do that’ especially when we have so much fun on half term programmes. I’ll miss the group and being part of CancerCare but I will take the memories and experiences with me onto my next venture.”
Chris brought a lot of positive energy and encouragement to RE-FRESH over his time at CancerCare and it has been great to watch him grow over the years.
“RE-FRESH would like to say goodbye and good luck to our Youth Worker Chris as he sets out on his new quest. Over the two years we worked with him he has gone from strength to strength, eagerly accepting training opportunities, taking on new roles and learning new skills leading up to the co-development of two new RE-FRESH groups in Kendal and Barrow. It has been great to watch Chris work with young people and see him build an amazing rapport with them. We are really going to miss Chris and hope that our paths will cross again in the future.” said Lou Andrews, CancerCare’s Young People’s Action Research Officer.
We would like to wish Chris the best of luck in his new adventure and look forward to seeing him succeed in his career!
