It’s Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week so it was quite timely that our service in Barrow got a nice boost courtesy of the tremendous Rhys Studt.

Rhys (pictured with our Furness fundraiser Heidi) popped into our Duke Street Centre with a lovely cheque for £500 thanks to his fundraising efforts in his local area.

Rhys said: "It was a pleasure to fundraise for CancerCare, Barrow. I particularly wanted the funds to go to the local community. CancerCare is a fabulous charity, and it is great to be able to contribute to help local people whatever they are going through whether it be anxiety about their health, the side effects of treatment or sadness through loss. It is a charity close to my heart - such a fabulous cause."

Our specialist children’s therapist Helen Tickle said the money would be spent equipment for the youngsters, affected by cancer or bereavement at home, who come to the charity for counselling, play therapy or to join the Re-Fresh Young People’s Peer Support Group.

"We are delighted to receive this very kind donation from Rhys. We will certainly be putting it to good use as we require some chairs and therapeutic toys. It will make a huge difference to services we offer and to the children that come into the centre,” said Helen.
