September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and, as part of it, we want to highlight the fantastic achievements of Jacob Walker. Jacob set himself a huge physical challenge to cycle 200-miles throughout August whilst raising money for five charities which are important to Jacob and his family, CancerCare being one of them.
In August 2020 Jacob was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia and ever since he has wanted to do a fundraiser to help the hospitals and charities that supported him and his family during difficult times.
Throughout August Jacob cycled 147.23 miles and raised a fantastic £4,453.95!! Jacob powered on through his bike rides whilst going through treatment which was an extremely difficult challenge for him both physically and mentally.
“We are so proud of Jacob and all that he’s achieved, it’s been a difficult time to fundraise but to get the support we did has been amazing, we’re so grateful. Jacob was sad that he had to cut short the challenge, but with all the treatment and everything he is still going through, even the fittest would find it tough! The challenge helped him mentally a lot more than we expected - it was great to see him get stronger,” said Jacob's mum Anja
During the summer holidays, the Walker family set up a family fun day which raised £1,020! The day was packed with plenty of fun activities such as giant chess and painting, as well live music from local bands.
“I felt proud to raise money for all the charities that helped me and my family. Seeing the total go up gave me a really good boost and it spurred me to keep on going and give it my all. The challenge was hard to start with but towards the middle I was feeling fitter and could go that bit further every ride. I’m so happy I raised lots of money, I raised £890.79 for each charity and I’m so thankful to everyone who supported me,” said Jacob
We would like to say a massive thank you to Jacob and the Walker family for choosing to support CancerCare. Congratulations on your fantastic achievement, we’re all so proud of you!
