Chapel Island Walk 2026

Events
09 August 2026

Join CancerCare for a walk to the unique landmark Chapel Island, one of Morecambe Bay’s hidden gems, on Sunday 9th August 2026!

The route sets off from Canal Foot (near Ulverston), from where we will make our way along the sands across the Bay.

We’ll then cross the River Leven and walk to Chapel Island, where those wishing to can explore the island and its array of wildlife. This is also an opportunity to rest your feet, enjoy a picnic and take in the magnificent views.

The historic Collins Weir, an old cart-line which appeared in 2024 after remaining covered by the sands for over 70 years, will still be visible this year. The walk returns to Canal Foot. The circular route is estimated to be between two to six miles, taking approx. three hours to complete.

Whilst this walk is flat and we’ll move at a steady pace, participants are advised to have a decent level of fitness. You will be safely guided across the shifting sands by King’s Guide to the Sands, Michael Wilson.

All funds raised via ticket sales will go to CancerCare so we can continue our mission of supporting local adults and children affected by cancer and bereavement. We hope you’ll join us!

Booking is now open! Ticket numbers are limited. CancerCare's Chapel Island Walk usually sells out - so don’t delay.
