The humble Brussels sprout is a staple of the British Christmas table. Some love them, some loathe them, but irrespective of your preference, you can’t deny that the little sprout is a versatile vegetable that can shine in all sorts of ways.

This Christmas, CancerCare is asking your team an all-important question: “What can you do with a bag of sprouts?”

What is CancerCare’s Festive Sprout Off?

The Festive Sprout Off is a fun challenge hosted by CancerCare. We’re asking your business or place of work to celebrate the lead up to Christmas a little differently this year, whilst raising some funds for your local cancer and bereavement charity.

We’re challenging you to embrace creativity, teamwork and plenty of festive spirit to come up with a fun and quirky fundraiser using just one simple ingredient. Pick up your bag of sprouts from CancerCare and get to work!

When is CancerCare’s Festive Sprout Off?

The challenge runs from 1st December 2025 to 19th December 2025, when Team CancerCare will award two prizes; the main award will go to the team that raises the most money for CancerCare - our Sprout Off Champions - and a second prize will be awarded for the most creative fundraiser.

We want you to sign up as soon as you see this challenge, though, and don’t forget to share your efforts on social media using the tag #CancerCareSproutOff

I need some ideas for some sprout-inspired fundraisers. Can you help?

Maybe you’ll turn your sprouts into soup to sell and donate the proceeds, or perhaps you’ll craft funky sprout sculptures while collecting donations from impressed onlookers. The possibilities are endless.

• Ever heard of a ‘sprout and spoon’ relay? It’s like an egg and spoon relay, but you’ve guessed it… with sprouts! Place bets on which team can win the relay without dropping a single sprout!
• Could you trade your sprout for something more valuable? Ask all employees to try to trade up their sprout, and then raffle off the most impressive traded items!
• Could your reception area be enhanced with a sprout sculpture? Make a sprout Christmas tree, a sprout logo of your company or something totally abstract, and charge everyone who passes by in awe!
• What culinary delights could you make with a sprout? Invite your colleagues to create a sprout-based canape, then hold a fundraising tasting afternoon and find your new top chef.
• Why not organise a sprout catwalk in the office? Create sprout earrings, a head dress, shoe decorations or a necklace and ask your colleagues to donate to watch you show off the next must-have accessories!

Are there any rules?

There’s just one simple rule: your fundraiser MUST include at least one Brussels sprout!

How do we raise money?

Alongside having lots of fun, we’d love for participants to raise vital funds for CancerCare during The Festive Sprout Off. Whether your small team of 10 all donate a single pound each, or your large-scale business can tally up a few hundred, it all matters!

We have set up a JustGiving page here where supporters and staff alike can donate. If you would prefer to take cash donations, that’s fine, just give the money to a member of CancerCare’s Fundraising Team once the challenge is finished.

Irrespective of how you choose to fundraise, send your donations back to CancerCare by 19th December to be in with a chance of winning a prize.

How do I get involved?

If you’d like to take part in the Festive Sprout Off, please click the button below to fill in a form to register your interest. A member of our Fundraising Team will then be in touch to arrange a time for you to pop into a centre to pick up your bag of sprouts, or we’ll drop one in at your business/place of work/office etc.
