After a bereavement, many people find it a comfort to do something positive and meaningful in their loved one’s memory, whilst raising money to help others affected by cancer or loss.
In October, Iain Cooper, took on his first ever Marathon in memory of his dad, Alec, raising an amazing £2,224.95 (including gift aid) for CancerCare.
Iain said " Throughout Dad's fight with cancer, he received amazing support from local charity CancerCare at Slynedales. He loved being able to spend time at the CancerCare allotment which was a source of joy and a great distraction to him - a form of therapy through the hardest of times. They also looked after our Mum, providing her with aromatherapy massage for relaxation and counselling making sure she was at her best in an emotionally and physically draining supporting role.CancerCare support many families like ours and it is only possible through donations. I wanted to run the Yorkshire Marathon & raise sponsorship as a way repay just a small amount of the kindness they showed us. I hope you never need to visit CancerCare, but I definitely want them to be there if you do.”
