Last Thursday was a day of reflection for our allotment team at THRIVE as they assembled a memorial bench for Alec, a fellow member of the group, who spent the latter of his life in the beautiful surroundings of our allotment in Lancaster.

Bay View Garden Centre very generously donated a memorial bench to our plot in Lancaster for family and friends to remember Alec.

Alec sadly passed away in September 2022 and he found the allotment a space to take himself away from what was happening in his life. He described THRIVE as “a welcomed distraction” and was pleased to throw his weight behind the spade.

Volunteers Patsie and John, and Warren from Bay View went down to our patch to assemble the bench which is perfectly situated to have a great view of the whole allotment patch.

Bay View Garden Centre have kindly donated a selection of bright and beautiful flowers for our gardens at Slynedales for this weekend’s in memoriam event, Lights on the Lawn, where members of THRIVE will light a candle to remember loved ones they have lost, including Alec.
