Introducing the “Famous Five” everyone here at CancerCare is talking about!

Next week, a group of friends will be taking on a unique outdoor adventure in memory of their much-loved friend to raise money for us.

The 5-do-5 Windermere Challenge will see Julie Bland, Sarah Boyle, Julie Dugdale, Lynn Nelson and Lisa Smith pay tribute to their friend Amanda Wilson by running, dragon boat paddling, sailing, swimming and walking around Amanda’s beloved Windermere.

The group have been pals for around 20 years after bonding at the gates of their children’s school.

The 5-do-5 will see the quintet run from Low Wray, on the west side of Windermere, to Low Wood Marina from which they will paddle a dragon boat - kindly supported by Windermere Paddlers for Life - down the lake to Royal Windermere Yacht Club in Bowness.

There they will transfer to a yacht and sail/motor down to Fell Foot Park where they will swim to Newby Bridge. The fifth and final stage will see them walk back up to their starting point of Low Wray.

Amanda was a keen sailor and was Chief Instructor, and latterly Commodore, of Royal Windermere Yacht Club where she was responsible for teaching hundreds of young people to sail. She was also a volunteer at Blackwell Sailing in Bowness helping local people with disabilities to take to the water.

CancerCare were chosen as to benefit from their fundraising efforts along with Blackwell Sailing and Paddlers for Life.

They have already smashed their target of £500 with the current total at more than £1,300! If you would like to donate please visit our Just Giving Page: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/5do5windermerechallenge
