If the need to travel any great distance to one of our centres poses a problem for you, we can arrange for one of our friendly, security checked volunteer drivers to pick you, wait during your session, and return you home. Again, we will endeavour to remove any potential stress from the situation to ensure the focus is all on you and your well-being.

All of our complementary therapies are designed to “complement” and we pride ourselves on having access to a wide range of different types of therapy, ranging from nutritional advice to hypnotherapy. We are also always looking to keep up with the latest developments in complementary healthcare and technology and now have the ability to deliver some therapies using the telephone and online methods – which has helped us reach even more people who need us.

List of therapies:

  • Counselling
    Open / Close

Our counsellors are all accredited with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

If you have been diagnosed, or are being treated for cancer, counselling can help in a number of different ways.

Talking to someone who is not a doctor, a member of your family or circle of friends can help you to cope better with the many, and often overwhelming emotions you may be feeling about your future, your family or your treatment.

If you are wary of “over burdening” your loved ones in order to protect them, talking can help you express your inner emotions freely which can help reduce your stress levels and help you cope much better with everyday life.

Many of our clients say that their counselling sessions are an “oasis in their week,” an opportunity for them to vent their emotions and express their inner anxieties without fear of judgement or upsetting someone they hold dear.

Our experienced counsellors can also help you cope with anxiety caused by aspects of the treatment process including fears or phobias about needles, side-effects of medication or surgical procedures.

  • Aromatherapy
    Open / Close

Aromatherapy is all about relaxation. Many of our clients say the one of the best things about coming to us is the chance to have a bit of ‘me time’. An hour to unwind and leave their stresses and anxieties at the door for an hour.

Our aromatherapists will help you achieve this by using essential oils, unique to your needs, and gentle massage techniques to relieve symptoms and promote a deep sense of calm and relaxation

Therapeutic manipulation of the body’s soft tissues can boost well-being in a number of ways including enhancing circulation and breathing, releasing muscle tension, improving sleep, relieving and reducing pain.

  • Indian Head Massage
    Open / Close

The head, more than any other area of the body, represents who we are and if the head feels good, we feel good.

Indian Head Massage is a soothing technique which involves massaging the neck, shoulders, upper arms, scalp and face, usually with a fully-clothed client in a seated position. The skull is covered with a thin layer of muscle which tightens when we are feeling tense and can result in a headache and/or feelings of anxiety. By relaxing the muscles, a head massage can improve blood flow, alleviate tension and promote relaxation throughout the whole body.

As well as pain and stress relief, it can also boost the immune system, improve joint mobility and circulation and the stimulation of follicles can also help promote healthy hair growth.

  • Hypnotherapy
    Open / Close

When you relax your body, your mind does the same. Hypnotherapy is the induction of a deeply calm state using progressive muscle relaxation, breathing techniques while being guided by the therapist’s voice.

This is vastly different to the hypnosis you may have seen on TV. There is no loss of control or awareness, only a profound sense of inner peace which in turn can help you cope with a range of stressful situations and experiences.

It can help reduce the side effects of medical treatment and related anxiety. If you are experiencing negative thoughts or depression, hypnotherapy can also provide you with coping skills you can practice on your own and help promote a more positive way of living.

  • Alexander Technique
    Open / Close

Posture is important. Our Alexander Technique practitioners can show you how to improve the way you move which can help prevent problems caused by unhelpful habits.

Session by session, you'll be taught to be more aware of your body, how to improve poor posture and move more efficiently.

You learn to be more aware of unhelpful patterns of tension, to release these and experience more freedom of movement. This can help with management of stress and the pain caused by back and neck ache. It can also encourage you to feel more in control.

If you are in shock or recently bereaved, the quiet touch and gentle presence of the teacher can also be very beneficial.

  • Reiki
    Open / Close

If you are struggling with stress and anxiety, Reiki can help improve relaxation, ease tension and boost your overall wellbeing. First developed in Japan, Reiki is a hands-on type of therapy that involves using light touch which aims to change and balance the energy fields in and around your body. You will not need to get undressed and the practitioner will put their hands on, or a few inches above, your body and work their way down from head to toe to encourage emotional and physical healing.

Reiki may also help alleviate physical symptoms such as headaches, nausea and insomnia.

  • Simple Lymphatic Drainage
    Open / Close

Many of our therapists specialise in simple lymphoedema massage, a form of manipulation that helps stimulate the lymphatic system and encourages the flow of lymph fluid. Our specialist therapists can also teach you how to do this from the comfort of your own home.

Please note: A referral from the Kendal Lymphology Centre will be needed to access this therapy.

  • Children’s Counselling & Play Therapy
    Open / Close

Our specialist children's counsellors and play therapists can help children make sense of their world, feelings and the potentially upsetting events that may be going on in their lives. Instead of having to verbally explain what is troubling them, as often takes place in adult therapy, children are encouraged to explore their emotions through creativity and use play and toys to communicate at their own level and at their own pace in our specially equipped play rooms.

For older children we can provide more traditional counselling.

  • Nutritional Therapy
    Open / Close

We are what we eat! Our nutritional therapists will work with you to create a tailor-made nutritional plan taking into account your unique needs and circumstances. Our ethos is that that food is medicine and medicine is food and we’ll provide a step-by-step guide, and regular support, to eating naturally, healthily and maximizing the nutrients you get from your food as well as advising on things to avoid.

  • Reflexology
    Open / Close

Reflexology is a type of massage that involves applying pressure to the feet, hands, and ears and is based on a theory that these body parts are connected to certain organs and body systems.

Reflexology can promote a range of health benefits including reducing stress and anxiety, lifting mood and improving general well-being.

  • EMDR
    Open / Close

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a psychological process used in hypnotherapy and psychotherapy that helps people to manage their emotional stress and traumas through bilateral stimulation (horizontal eye movement, auditory or kinesthetic stimulation) which enables any stuck memories and feelings to be processed more effectively and naturally and released. Once these thoughts feelings and emotions have been processed then they can effectively be removed and no longer need to act as a trigger for future stress and anxiety.
