Case Studies

SCS Logistics

Heysham-based haulage firm SCS Logistics have been supporting CancerCare since 2014 during which time it has raised more than £5,000 for us thanks to monthly donation of 1p for every pallet they move. The SCS team are very supportive of our work and use events such as the Santa Dash and Cross Bay Walk as team building exercises.

The firm is also an advocate of the work we do, spreading the word about our services far and wide with their eye-catching 10 lorry trailers which bear the CancerCare logo.

Owner Sandra Cottam-Shea said that supporting CancerCare is a vital part of their ethos as a business at the heart of their local community.

“We support CancerCare because they address the ripple effect and practicalities of bereavement and cancer which is a disease that has huge psychological implications on the patient and the family. We see CancerCare as an extended family that wrap their arms of support around the whole family and their values are similar to those we also have at our core here at SCS. We are proud to be a corporate partner of such a fantastic charity,” said Sandra.

Morecambe Bay Wills

Nicola’s relationship with CancerCare began in 2017 when her husband Jim was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and the couple were referred to us for support.

She said the therapy they received was a huge help to them both: “Jim learned some techniques which really helped him face anxiety about treatment and also took advantage of reflexology which helped some of the side effects he was experiencing. I too accessed therapy which sometimes meant relaxing with a massage, and other times talking about how I was feeling.

Sadly, Nicola lost Jim in 2018 and afterwards, inspired by problems she experienced getting her own financial affairs in order in the months that followed, she set up her own Will-writing business which has since gone from strength-to-strength.

Nicola makes a 5% donation from every invoice raised by the company.

Armstrong Ward

Armstrong Ward is an independent lifestyle store which has been situated on Wainwright’s Yard in Kendal since 2005.

In 2020, owner Jacqueline Ward supported CancerCare in a number of ways after we supported one of her friends who sadly died last year. Jacqueline ran her fist ever marathon raising more than £2,000 in sponsorship. Over the Christmas period in 2021 she also held special Festive Fizz fundraising evenings at which customers were encouraged to make a donation to us and she also stocked our charity book Extra Helpings in the shop.

The Lawn Ranger

Chris said: "Working in partnership with CancerCare has really made a difference to my business. I'm getting more enquiries than I normally would for this time of the year. One new customer came to me after asking for recommendations on Facebook and lots of people suggested The Lawn Ranger as I was donating to CancerCare. This made the customer pick me as their gardener, saying ‘it is a charity that is close to home."
