Anna's fundraising update

We've got some exciting news for you this week including new staff, more wonderful donations and will writing!

Hello everyone,

The big news in Fundraising this week is that we have a new Community Fundraiser, Emma Athersmith - she will be helping to raise funds in the Barrow & Furness area! Emma has already been planning lots of exciting new fundraising ideas including some fun activities for Christmas! We are delighted to welcome her to the team and I’m sure she would love to hear from anyone in the Barrow & Furness community who wants to know more about raising funds for CancerCare!

In Lancaster this week, NCS group ‘Team Aphrodite’ will be holding a sponsored stationary bike ride and cake sale in the city centre on Wednesday 15th August. The group will be raising funds for Unique Kidz and CancerCare’s Teenage Services. As young people themselves (every member of the group is 16 years old), they wanted their fundraising to help other local children and teenagers. We think that’s pretty inspiring!

We are still seeking volunteers to join us at some of our other upcoming fundraising events, including our supermarket collection at Booths, Kirkby Lonsdale on 15th August, our fundraising activities at ‘Rock On Kendal’ on 27th August; featuring rock legends, Status Quo, and the Lancaster University Triathlon on 9th September.

Volunteering is such a great way to meet new people and these events are set to be great fun. Plus, by sparing an hour or so of your time, you will helping to support local families affected by cancer.

We’ve had some significant donations this week; many of which have been given in memory of loved ones. This is such a special and positive way to celebrate the life of a loved one, whilst helping to ensure that support is available to others in our community who are affected by cancer. We are very touched to have received donations this week in memory of Stan Lindsay, Beth Atkinson, Hazel Wallbank & Dennis Heward.

We have also received another wonderful gift this week; a donation of £20,000 left to CancerCare in the Will of Betty Oldroyd. We are so grateful to Betty and her family for this kindness.
CancerCare have been very fortunate to have been remembered in the Wills of many thoughtful supporters and we are always amazed at these most generous gestures; that so many people want to make a difference for others in our local community after they have gone. Perhaps it might surprise you to learn that gifts left to CancerCare in Wills currently enable us to fund around 20% of our support services for families affected by cancer!

We are currently working with local solicitors who have agreed to gift their Will-writing services to CancerCare supporters in exchange for a donation to the charity. Of course, there will be no obligation to leave a gift to CancerCare in their Will, but we hope that this will be something that many will consider.

If you would like to know more about this, or want to know more about any aspect of CancerCare’s Fundraising please do get in touch by calling us on 01524 381820 or email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

We’ll be back with more updates next week! Thank you again for your fantastic support!

Kindest regards,
The Fundraising Team
