Good morning from Lancaster. It’s hard to believe that next week marks the longest day of the year on the 21st June!

in or outAnd, at long last, by this time next week the EU vote will be over and done with. I mention the 'vote' as during my week at a number of meetings the outcome to in or out has been very much on the minds of lots of individual and organisations.

On Tuesday I attended the annual Hospice UK roadshow which was held at Trinity Hospice in Blackpool. The impact of the EU vote figured in discussions , be it in relation to a variety of economic factors and to other legislative guidance effecting the clinical governance of Hospice’s. What is certain, in or out, the ramifications will continue and impact on all charities no matter what and  no doubt our lives in general.

YOUTHZONEHOSPICEWhilst at Trinity I also got the chance to visit their Youth Zone which is basically a log cabin built in the grounds of the Hospice – I came back fired up with lots of ideas about our aspirations to provide a similar facility here linked to the Lancaster Guardian's CancerCare Counts campaign and our objective to expand and enhance the services we can offer to children and teenagers. I will be starting a 'conversation' with as many of you as possible about this later in the summer so we can gather ideas and suggestions to make this a reality!

You will have noticed in the grounds a marquee, which is hosting a number of events over the next week. Congratulations to all of the team and volunteers. Together I am proud of the support we give to the communities of North Lancashire and South Lakeland. Here’s to the next 30 years for both vital organisations!

Have a great weekend everyone! Neil.
