Anna's Fundraising Update

We're so thankful for our supporters

Hello colleagues, supporters and friends, another we've had another very busy week!

Big thanks to everyone who has contributed raffle and tombola prizes over the last couple of weeks; our prize cupboard (yes we have a prize cupboard!) is beginning to fill up quite nicely in preparation for our Christmas fairs and events. If you do have any bits and pieces, unwanted gifts, toiletries, boxes of chocolates that could help us raise much needed funds this Christmas, please drop them off with our Fundraising Team at any of our three local centres! We’d be so grateful!

The fundraising office is also filling up with colourful posters promoting all the incredible fundraising events planned between now and the end of 2018! Do take a look at the attached update for a summary and see the events listings on our website for more information:

We’ve had some incredible donations last week – you all continue to overwhelm us with your generosity!

Peter Remington delivered a further donation of £1,600 from the Westmorland Motor Club’s Bultaco Revival event earlier this year. In total, the event has now raised £3,900 for CancerCare! Thank you! The team behind the event marked this great achievement with a photo with the ‘CancerCare Big Cheque’!

Lyndsay Burlinson brought in £175.00 that she raised in sponsorship when taking part in our first-ever Piel Island Walk earlier this year. Thanks to Lyndsey and everyone who sponsored her!

We are so touched to have received many wonderful donations totalling £934.00 this week from families in North Lancashire who have received support from CancerCare. We also received the remainder of a remarkable £157,000 legacy gift, left to us by Mr Oswald Humphrey Parker. It means so much to us that those who have been helped by CancerCare want to make sure the same support services are there to help others in the future.

And (last but not least!) a group of our fabulous CancerCare volunteers attended a Christmas Card Sale hosted by the Windermere Inner Wheel and sold our own selection of Christmas Card designs last week - raising £78.50. Our cards really are selling like hot cakes this year, so make sure you get yours while you can (either from our centres or from one of our upcoming Christmas fairs!). You can also order them online here.

There’s been more good news in that supporter Anna Eddowes-Scott announced that CancerCare will be one of three charities she is fundraising for as she prepares to take on the London Marathon 2019, our friends at Virginia House in Ulverston are planning a Gin-themed advent calendar in aid of CancerCare and we found out that, for the next 12 months, Co-op Members can choose to donate 1% of their spend to Furness CancerCare when they buy selected Co-op brand products and services!

It was another busy weekend for fundraising last week!
First up, we headed to Milnthorpe, where throughout the day on Friday, staff at the town’s Booths Supermarket will be collecting in aid of CancerCare!

Later that evening, we were in Heysham for a special evening of Lancashire-themed entertainment arranged by CancerCare supporters Edith Farrar & Freda Addison! It was a fantastic, sold out event with live music and a delicious hot pot supper.

On Saturday, we be hosted a coffee morning at the Coronation Hall, Ulverston. It was a huge success, thank you so much to everyone who attended!

On Sunday, supporter Kathryn Verity took part in the Lancaster Half Marathon in aid of CancerCare. She raised a total of £500.31, a fantastic achievement which we’re so grateful for.

Also, last weekend we bid ‘Bon Voyage’ to CancerCare Therapy Coordinator and Hypnotherapist Georgie Whittle, as she sets off on her AMAZING Cambodia Trek! Georgie has been working hard to fundraise for CancerCare over the past 12months, raising well over £2,000! What a star! Best of luck to Georgie and we can’t wait to hear all about her challenge adventure as well as find out the total she has managed to raise in support of local families affected by cancer!

In the meantime, we’ll be wishing her well from CancerCare HQ!
