Anna's Fundraising Update

Our incredible fundraising champions

Find out what the Fundraising Team has been up to in Anna's Fundraising Update!

Hello everyone,
A shorter update from us this week, but not through lack of things to tell you about! It’s certainly a very busy time for our Fundraising Team!

Our job is to help raise the funds needed to provide CancerCare’s therapies and services in our local area – something that is only possible with the support of our wonderful community and you never cease to amaze us with your brilliant fundraising ideas! Just this week, we’ve received donations from such a variety of creative ideas!

Firstly, thanks to Cate Castle & family who invited family friend and local comedian/musician, Kriss Foster to perform a preview to his upcoming Edinburgh Fringe Festival show, live in their living room! The exclusive performance raised £419.00 in donations from those who were lucky enough to be invited by Cate!

We’ve had a visit from 9-year-old, Jim Harrison, who has raised £32.00 by completing a 6-hour sponsored silence, lasting the whole school day! Jim said it was very difficult staying quiet all day, but was pleased to receive a certificate from a CancerCare Fundraiser, and he heard how his fantastic fundraising will help local families affected by cancer. Well done, Jim!

And Steve Cody’s unique Cha Cha Slide Plank Challenge idea is going strong with lots of groups and organisations from across the region getting involved and donating in support of Steve’s year-long fundraising efforts! Check out Steve’s latest videos on our facebook page here.
If you’d like Steve to visit your workplace/clubhouse/local pub and show you how to do the Cha Cha Slide Plank, drop us a line at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Plus, we’ve been coming up with plenty of ideas of our own this week! The flipchart paper and markers came out for our weekly team meeting, which we spent brainstorming new ways to fundraise! It’s great to challenge ourselves to think of innovative ideas and get them all down on paper! Watch this space to see the new ideas in action!

Some of the tried-and-tested fundraising ideas still work very well though! That’s why we attended Barrow Market last Saturday promoting one of our most regular sources of funding, the CancerCare Lottery! Thank you to everyone that popped down to say ‘Hi’ to Beryl and make sure you’re in with the chance to win up to £5,000!

We’ll be hosting Supermarket Collections in Kendal on 28th March & 26th April, but we do need volunteers to help us collect. Can you spare an hour or so to help collect donations? For more information about our volunteering opportunities, or if you have a fundraising idea of your own, give us a call on 01524 381820 or email This email address is being protected from spambots.
