Anna's fundraising update

Hi all,

Hope you are having a great week so far! Please take a moment out of your busy day to make a cuppa and have a read through my fundraising update.

We recently hosted a get-together with some of our volunteers in North Lancashire and took some time to meet with our Fundraising Volunteers in the South Lakes. We updated them on upcoming volunteering opportunities, and celebrated some of the good news stories from the last couple of months. It was a really lovely morning and a great chance to catch up!

We are always looking for volunteers to help us out at our fundraising events, bake, make jam and help distribute flyers and posters. If you, or someone you know, would like to join our band of wonderful volunteers, please do get in touch by dropping us an email at This email address is being protected from spambots. The support continued as we received some brilliant donations again this week! We’d like to say a big thanks to:

First Kick Scooter Collective - who have raised £500 by collecting donations over their weekend of live music in Morecambe!

Slyne-with-Hest St Luke’s C of E Primary School - who held a non-uniform day and raised £193!

Stuart Hunter & David Little - who completed the Holme Howler Obstacle Course, raising £3,030 (including a donation of £1,000 from their employers, Lakes District Estates)

We found out we have unfortunately not been named Charity of the Year for Sainsbury’s Morecambe Store, however we would like to say a huge thank you to everyone for all of your votes! They really did mean a lot, and it has still had a great impact… Although we have not been selected as the official charity for the store, the staff felt moved by the number of votes given to CancerCare and have promised to support us in other ways throughout the year.

There is another chance to ‘Vote for CancerCare’ now at the ASDA Lancaster store. We’re lucky enough have been nominated as one of three charities who could receive up to £500 if we collect enough Green Token votes. If you are instore this week, do make sure you ask for a Green Token and pop it the clear box marked ‘CancerCare’.

In other good news, we can finally confirm that CancerCare will be one of the chosen charities to be supported at a very special ‘Status Quo’ gig on 27th August at Kendal Rugby Club. The band are only playing a handful of dates this year and thousands of fans are expected to attend this concert in the Lakes. We will be looking for volunteers to help us hold a bucket collection and man our CancerCare stall. If you’re interested, don’t hesitate to get in touch!

Last weekend was especially busy with loads happening. Aran Rigg hosted his annual charity football match in memory of his grandad, Thomas. George Whittle threw a Carribean-themed party in Halton, and last but not least we held our first ever Piel Island Walk! All three events had fantastic attendance and were a huge success, and every penny raised at these events goes directly towards supporting those in our community affected by cancer. Here's to a great week of fundraising!

Kindest regards,

Anna Webster, Fundraising Team Administrator
