Anna's Fundraising Update

A Full Monty extravaganza in aid of CancerCare

What a week of fundraising it's been!

Hello everyone,
The weather has turned colder this week, the fundraising team are asking for donations of mince pies and our Santa Dashers kicked off the official Lancaster Christmas Light Switch-On… does that mean it’s officially Christmas?!

Oh yes our Santa Dash & Festive 5k recently painted the town red (and white) with over 200 Santas of all ages running through the streets of Lancaster. What a great day! 6-year-old, Ethan Howse raised the most sponsorship and won the chance to turn on the city’s Christmas Lights and Lancaster University student, Jak Newby was the first of the runners to cross the finish line of this year’s new addition, the Festive 5k! We are delighted to announce that the event raised over £2,000 for CancerCare with sponsorship money still coming in! Huge thanks to all our participants, sponsors and volunteers. And whilst the real Father Christmas is most definitely on his way, there is still time to get sorted for cards and presents for your nearest and dearest.

We also hosted our monthly coffee mornings at our Slynedales centre, Lancaster and Lakes Centre, Kendal, plus there was a Christmas Fair happening at our Lakes Centre. It was a wonderfully festive time, thank you to all those who came down!

This Wednesday 5th December, we’ll be holding another Christmas Fair, this time at Leighton Hall between 10am-2pm. Suzie Reynolds, one of the owners of the beautiful Leighton Hall, will again be opening the doors to her home in order to host this festive fair in aid of CancerCare. There will be a range of stalls, refreshments and music from the pupils of Yealand Church of England Primary School. It’s a great chance to do some Christmas shopping in a stunning setting. Entry is £5 and includes a mince pie plus tea/coffee.

Don’t forget, CancerCare Christmas Cards and Christmas puddings are still on sale at our centres, not to mention a fabulous selection of Christmas decorations, gifts and a very special 2019 calendar. The Breast of Britain calendar, produced by local hairdresser Toni Riddick who has undergone treatment for breast cancer this year, is on sale at our Slynedales reception desk for just £8.00. If you’d like us to reserve you one (or more) of these gorgeous calendars, drop us an email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

If you’re still stuck for gift ideas for the person who has everything, why not get them a gift membership to the CancerCare Lottery? You’ll be helping to support local families affected by cancer and also giving the recipient a chance to win up to £5,000! Now that IS a great present!

There are also a few chances for you to win this Christmas too! Pick up a £1 ticket for our Christmas Bumper Draw before the 14th December to be in the running for the grand prize of £500 + a luxury gift hamper. Tickets are on sale from each of our centres.
Or perhaps you fancy winning one of 2 ‘Great British Menu Experience’ vouchers? Each voucher is for 2 people and worth £150 per person – you’ll get to experience each course as presented on the Great British Menu, paired with matching wines. Sounds delicious right? Buy your ticket for this draw online here: www.trybooking.co.uk/hfa

We feel very lucky to have such fantastic support from across North Lancashire & South Cumbria and would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has made donations recently including:
• St Mary’s Primary School in Morecambe for raising £160 with a non-uniform day
• Emma Haslam who collected donations of £163.75 instead of gifts at her recent birthday celebrations
• The Order of the Eastern Star for their donation of £200
and Ambleside Drop-In Group for raising over £1,500 at their annual Christmas Fair! The group put so much hard work into organising this event and we are always so overwhelmed by the amount they raise! They are true Christmas stars!

This weekend had an incredible group of superstars; the team at Maya Maya, Kendal, who put on their fabulous Full Monty-style extravaganza for CancerCare with the aim of raising more than £10,000 to help people facing cancer. They have since smashed this target, and the total sits at over £18,000 currently!

The Maya Maya ladies have been preparing and fundraising throughout the year and we just know their event is going to be amazing! Have a great week everyone!
