Anna's Fundraising update

The busy Bank Holiday Weekend is behind us and brought some fantastic fundraising achievements!

Huge thanks to the Duffy family, who held their annual Family Fun Day in memory of daughter and sister, Alanna Duffy who tragically lost her life to leukaemia 10 years ago. The festival-themed ‘AlannaFest’ on Sunday was a huge success and raised over £6,500!

Stella, Alanna’s mum, said: “Every bit of money for CancerCare helps. We love doing it. It’s so good doing something in memory of Alanna. It makes me feel fantastic. Alanna would have loved it because she was into music and dancing. She’d have loved seeing her face everywhere. It felt as if she was with us.”

Our very own David James was also fundraising at the weekend; completing the first of his 10k races in aid of CancerCare! He’s raised a fantastic £460 so far, but there’s still time to sponsor him here: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/david-james74

Well done also to Olivia Cobb from FGH Security who has raised £727.34 for CancerCare by running the Edinburgh Half Marathon! FGH Security are fantastic corporate supporters of CancerCare and Olivia decided to take on the challenge when she visited CancerCare with the company to donate toys for our Children & Young Persons Service.

As a further gift to the charity, FGH Security have also very kindly allowed us to access free First Aid Training that they deliver to their own staff. Anna S, Anna W, Ingrid and volunteer receptionist, Colette, all attended the course at the FGH Security offices earlier this week and passed with flying colours!

This week, we’ve also had some other fantastic support; including a generous donation of thanks from a gentleman in Cumbria and an exciting £500 donation, plus a pledge of some volunteer time, from M&S Lancaster to help our work with teenagers. Read more in the update attached!

This weekend, we were due to be crossing the sands of Morecambe Bay with our Cross Bay Challenge Walk, but unfortunately, safety advice from our guide, Cedric Robinson MBE, means we have had to postpone the event until later in the year. However, there is still plenty to keep us busy in the weeks ahead…

  • This Sunday, my colleague Richard Cogger will be attending a special outdoor concert by local singing sensations ‘Voce’ at Barrow Park Bandstand. The group have very kindly allowed us to collect in aid of CancerCare at the free concert.
  • Our friends at Pizza Margherita are hosting an Arty Quiz night at 7.30pm on 5th June. It costs £2 per person for entry plus some yummy Italian nibbles! All proceeds to CancerCare!

  • The 9th June will see the Ambleside Drop-in’s Annual Summer Fair held at the Kelsick Centre between 10am-12noon. There’ll be cakes, bric-a-brac and a raffle!

On the evening of 9th June, 3-1-5 Health Club are hosting their Summer Ballwith all funds raised during the evening to be donated to CancerCare, as we are the company’s Charity of the Year. Tickets are still available from the Health Club in Lancaster.

Phew! What a bumper week! More to update you on next week, but please do drop us a line if you’d like any more info – or pop in and see us in the Fundraising Office J

    Kindest regards,

    Anna Webster, Fundraising Team Coordinator
