Local Builder Adrian Lydiate, aged 45 from Milnthorpe, has been coming to the CancerCare Lakes Centre in Kendal for a weekly Indian Head Massage
"It was my wife who first told me about CancerCare after hearing about them from her GP. We were both really struggling after finding out our son had cancer. Although we did have other friends and family around us, we both felt we weren't getting the support we needed from them. I think some people just didn't know what to say to us or understood what we were going through. We felt quite isolated from everyone."
"So, I decided to come along to the CancerCare Lakes Centre in Kendal and find out about what services they could offer me. After having an initial chat with the team I decided I really liked the idea of having Indian Head Massage. I've been coming for 12 weeks now and it's been great."
"The good thing about CancerCare is the fact they are not emotionally attached or directly involved in my situation. All their staff are fully trained and qualified so you know they can give you that much needed support when you're going through a really difficult time. I actually felt guilty at first accessing the service because I wasn't the one who was ill. But I soon realised, what use am I to my family if I suddenly break down or collapse? I don't often ask for help but recognised it was important for me to look after myself. Being able to have some 'me' time and relax has helped me - and my family - immensely."
