Christmas should be a magical time of year for coming together with family and friends to celebrate good times. But if you’ve lost someone you care about to cancer, it can also be lonely, sad and even traumatic. Fortunately, thanks to CancerCare, help & support wil be available throughout the festive period.

The local charity currently provides a range of free services for North Lancashire & South Lakeland families affected by the impact of cancer, including professional counselling & complementary therapies, at their dedicated centres on Slyne Road, Lancaster and Blackhall Road, Kendal, which, for the first time, will open during the Christmas holiday break.

DavidS resizedCancerCare Counsellor David Stubbs (pictured) says; We know that Christmas can be a really emotional time for lots of people but you don’t have to struggle alone. If you need a bit of extra support and need to talk to someone, even if it’s just to get out of your house for a bit, pop in for a cuppa and a chat. We’re here for you if you need us.

Sue from Lancaster says; “After losing my mum to cancer, I felt isolated, low and had nowhere to turn. Making the call to CancerCare was hard, but hearing the voice on the other end was so reassuring. The staff & volunteers are lovely & friendly & nothing is too much trouble. There is so much to get involved in if you want to & meet new people. I couldn't speak more highly of them.”

CancerCare's centres will close for the Christmas break at 4pm on Christmas Eve but will re-open again at 9am on Wednesday 28th and through to Friday 30th December, closing at 4pm each day.

There will also be a Coffee Morning event on Friday 30th between 10am-12noon with CancerCare volunteers serving up refreshments and home baking.
