CancerCare CEO Neil's Weekly Blog

Good Morning! It's been a shorter working week for all of us but very busy nonetheless.

I wanted to share some lovely feedback with you, received this week. The first, from a client:

"Speech Bubble pale blue 01CancerCare Kendal gave me a quiet space to talk about my lovely Mum and to help me to come to terms with the loss of this hugely important person. It also helped greatly to be able to talk about other issues in my life.

I nearly didn't make that initial phone call; I usually 'just get on with it'. From the amount of talking I did it was obvious there was a need! It was also a space to have a good cry on numerous occasions which helped enormously. From the moment I walked through the door I felt supported; at every visit a mug of tea and a friendly welcoming face on arrival. Thank you all.

I found Fiona so easy to talk to and felt that she truly heard me and understood. I appreciated her warm, down to earth manner and her lovely sense of humour. I feel that Fiona helped with both my concerns. I don't feel so 'lost' with regard to my sense of balance and perspective and am trying to go forward with optimism through these very changed and changing days. The bereavement support was also hugely important to me; again, a calm and quiet space to talk, to cry and to be heard and feel supported.

Thank you so much for the wonderful service that you provide to those of us in need of support and TLC. And a huge thank you to Fiona for confirming that I was right to make that call to CancerCare in the hope that it would help me cope and to move forward.”

The second was four words I have taken from an email I received this week from Counsellor Linda Stephens, thanking us for her retirement gift and reflecting on her thoughts about CancerCare. The four words she used to describe CancerCare and its people (all staff & volunteers) were Warmth, Respect, Kindness & Wisdom.

I will leave you to reflect on this yourselves  :)
Whatever you get up to, have a great weekend.

Neil.
