CancerCare CEO Neil's Weekly Blog

Good Morning! Your first day back after a week off is always a bit of a grind, but the email catch up, meetings here and with colleagues at St John’s Hospice plus a useful catch up with Helen, Heather and Jodie from Bay Radio ensured Monday flew in!

norah mercerOn Tuesday, I spent a really useful bit of time with Norah Mercer, one of three new Trustees who will be joining our Board from April. Norah, who lives in Lancaster and, until recently, was a very successful head teacher, has a warming personality and boundless energy, which I am sure will be an asset to our team. You will read more and meet her in the coming weeks.

Wednesday seemed to be another day for me of meetings, starting with another lively meeting of the Morecambe Bay Cancer Patients network. We are very proud of this group who since their re-form, have added so much value in terms of practical feedback to both us and our NHS colleagues. So much so, that that the group have now welcomed a representative from Preston who is trying to get a similar group established for this part of Lancashire and South Ribble.

Later in the day, I attended the “Living with and Beyond Cancer” project Steering Group. Work is progressing and at the moment, the emphasis is on a number of open space events being held in the area. The first event in Barrow has already been a success, with two more to follow in Morecambe and Kendal. If any client, family member or carer is interesting in attending This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Today, I have had a really good catch up with our former Chairman and now Vice-president Robert Webb, who like so many of our long standing supporters, is passionate about the work and development of CancerCare. He also shared with me the exciting news of his appointment to the position of High Sheriff of Lancashire, the Queens official representative from April 2017. I am sure he will carry out this role with aplomb!

Whatever you are doing have a good weekend.

Neil.
