CancerCare CEO Neil's Weekly Blog

Good Morning! Our centre coffee mornings have been in full swing earlier today. Thanks are due, as always, to our regular volunteers who run them for us

We seem to get more and more people attending them, so please keep encouraging friends, clients and supporters to pop in. The next events will take place on Friday 28th April alongside our fantastic Plant Sales so not to be missed!

DSC 0840Last Friday of course, was the event that so many people had been looking forward to, the Phoenix Charity Ball, held at the Globe Arena in Morecambe. Sarah, Andrea and all the people who helped did themselves and CancerCare proud, raising a magnificent £14,000. It was the pure celebration of life and the chance to shout out loud and proud about the amazing work we do - it was so inspirational. Thank you, is all I can truly say to everyone!

Mind Index awardThis week has also been very packed, with a great trip to London on Tuesday with Alison S. We attended the MIND Workplace index launch and awards and were both delighted and very proud to receive a Bronze award, following our first submission. This is a fantastic achievement for the whole of the organisation and a big thanks to all the staff who took part in the survey. We will be feeding back soon to everyone and agreeing some actions for the year ahead before we take part in next year’s survey.

therapy room

Our work in Barrow is going from strength to strength and I am delighted to share with you a picture of our brand new therapy room at Trinity House on Abbey Road, open from next week. Richard did a great job in getting free paint and materials and Rachel has painted, scrubbed, and made curtains (by her mum) to sort it all out. Great team work, thank you.

Alison D and I had a really successful review meeting with the Clinical Commissioning Group Commissioner who will be taking responsibility for the whole of the Morecambe Bay Area from April 1st. We are looking forward to continuing a positive working relationship and developing our work.

Heather Hilton, our new Events and Corporate Fundraiser, is busy working on an exciting programme of events across the summer, including a Colour Dash for University students , a Triathlon (a joint event with our colleagues from St John’s Hospice) and of course, our Cross Bay Walk (places are selling fast, have you booked yours yet?) We urgently need volunteers for a number of roles at the above events and without your support, we will struggle to make them a success. So, if you can spare a couple of hours can you please get in touch with This email address is being protected from spambots. Thank you! Have a good weekend. Regards, Neil
